Frequently asked questions
You can pay with your eligible Android Device at any store that accepts contactless or mobile payments. You also can pay in apps or online at available merchants, as well as across Google Properties, such as YouTube or Google Play.
For credit card purchases you can use Google Pay outside of Canada. For debit card purchases Google Pay is available for use in Canada only.
Adding cards through the Google Wallet app: All B M O Personal and Business debit and credit cards can be added except B M O Prepaid Mastercards and Diners Club cards.
Adding cards through the B M O Mobile Banking App: All B M O Personal credit cards can be added except B M O Prepaid Mastercards and Diner Club cards.
Please note: You can only add B M O personal credit cards to your Google Wallet using the B M O Mobile Banking app (this excludes Prepaid Mastercards and Diners Club cards).
If you are looking to add your B M O debit card or business credit card, please use the Google Wallet app.
If only one payment card is added in the Google Wallet app, it will automatically become your default card. If you have multiple payment cards, you can choose which card to use as a default card.
To add your eligible B M O Card as your default card:
- Open the Google Wallet app on your Android device
- Tap and choose the eligible B M O Card you want to use as your default card
- Tap ’Set as default card’
Expiring B M O Debit Card
All your personal & business B M O Debit Cards will remain active and available for purchases using Google Pay until the date of expiry on your plastic cards. When you receive your new replacement Access Card, activate it at an A T M or by making an in-store purchase with your P I N to avoid any interruption. Once activated, you can add it to Google Wallet.
Expiring B M O Credit Card
Your personal & business B M O Credit Cards will remain active and available for purchases using Google Pay until the date of expiry on your plastic cards. You will be mailed a new card and your new card must be activated in order to use your card. Once activated, your new card is ready to use in Google Wallet automatically.
If your B M O Personal or Business Debit Card is lost or stolen:
You can quickly report your debit card as lost or stolen and request a new card through the B M O Mobile Banking app. Just follow these steps:
- Sign into Mobile Banking
- Select your bank account and then ‘Manage Card’ on the account details page (the gear icon)
- Select the ‘It’s lost or stolen’ option
- Review your information and submit
A new debit card will arrive in the mail in six to eight business days. You can also visit your nearest branch or call us at 1-800-361-3361 to report a missing card.

If your B M O Personal or Business Credit Card is lost or stolen:
If you think your credit card has been lost, stolen or if you notice unusual activity on your account, notify us as soon as possible. You can quickly and easily report your card as lost or stolen through Online Banking or Mobile Banking. You can also visit your nearest branch to report your missing card.
You have the ability to suspend or remove the ability to pay from your Android device with Google. To learn more, visit the Google Account Help website.
How do I return a purchase made with Google Pay?
Returns with Google Pay work the same as with your physical card—contact the merchant and provide your receipt. Bring the device you used for the purchase, and if needed, you can find the last 4 digits of your virtual account number in the card details screen of the Google Pay app.
Is there a tap limit when I use my B M O Debit Card for Google Pay transactions?
Yes, a per transaction limit of $250 will apply when using your debit card for Google Pay. If you are unsure of how much you will be spending, it is a good idea to carry your B M O Debit Card as back-up.
How secure is Google Pay?
By creating a unique virtual card number for your payment information, your name and full card details are never shown in the app and never shared with the store. If your phone is ever lost or stolen you can easily find, lock, and erase your phone using Google Find Hub. Because you need to unlock your phone before using Google Pay; it is just as secure as using your actual card and P I N.
Will I still collect loyalty rewards?
You will continue to receive all the security, benefits and rewards of your cards. Google Pay can only be used to make purchases. However, you may still need to show the merchant your loyalty card to receive rewards beyond what your credit or debit card offers.
